Torrential rains in Rodrigues Island

Torrential rains fell on Rodrigues Island * since yesterday evening.
Bad weather resulted in significant accumulations of water and flooding throughout the island, especially in Port-Mathurin.

All schools have been closed, this Friday, March 14, 2014, and the heavy rain alert by the meteorological station is still in force.
Businesses also declined their curtains and buses ceased to circulate with many roads made impassable while heavy downpours persist.
165 mm of rains were thus recorded in a few hours at Citronelle, 150 mm at Plaine-Corail and 124 mm at Pointe-Canon, as indicated by site.
