The Albion research center will focus on aquaculture of crabs

The new research center located in Albion, in the west of the island will shortly devote in particular to the breeding of crabs.

The aquaculture project will thus be funded to the tune of 5 million rupees (131,578 euros). In a first phase, these are some 500 kilos of crabs that will be sold annually on the Mauritian market stalls.

For the Department of Fisheries, the crabs have an interesting commercial value and would encourage fishermen and other cooperatives to become involved in this way of aquaculture.
