Subutex trafficking in Mauritius: A Frenchman pleads guilty and seeks the indulgence of the court
Prosecuted for illegal importation of 9,844 tablets of subutex, heroin alternative to, French Mathieu Blondeau, 21 years old, pleaded guilty on Tuesday in the Assize Court before the Mauritian justice.
 
"I apologize to the people of Mauritius and the Court. I request to give me a chance. I have a child of 15 month waiting for me", said Mathieu Blondeau in court which will deliver its verdict this Thursday afternoon.
 
The former cook was arrested in March 2011, on his arrival to the international airport, Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam of Plaisance in Mauritius by the customs authorities with subutex in his luggage.
 
The market value of the drugs seized is estimated at 15 million rupees or around 394,000 euros.
 
Mathieu Blondeau has also exculpated his ex-girlfriend Katia Terminet who accompanied him on this trip to Mauritius and was released in late November 2012.
