Seychelles: The resumption of direct flights between Reunion Island and the archipelago hailed by the Seychellois authorities

The resumption of direct flights - suspended in 2013 - between Reunion and the archipelago of Seychelles by the airline company Air Austral is effective since Monday night.

A Boeing 737 thus landed on the tarmac of international airport of Mahe with 93 passengers.

Two weekly flights are scheduled on Monday and Thursday from the Roland Garros Airport in Reunion and the same number on Tuesday and Friday in the heart of the archipelago.

"This is an important step for the Seychelles and Reunion. The resumption of Air Austral flights to the archipelago is the result of the political will of the president of the Republic of Seychelles, James Michel, and the president of the regional Council of Reunion, Didier Robert, which opens the way to a better air connectivity between the archipelago of Seychelles and Reunion", reported Joël Morgan, Minister of the Interior, environment, transportation and energy of Seychelles.

Naiken Sherin, director of the Seychelles Tourism Board, praised on her side the resumption of direct flights between Reunion and the archipelago, while recalling that its services are working hand in hand with the l'île Réunion Tourisme (IRT) for the development of marketing around this air link between Mahé and Roland Garros airport.
