Seychelles: President James Michel on official visit to Vietnam to strengthen cooperation between the two countries
The President of Seychelles James Michel, arrived today Wednesday 28 August 2013, for a two days official visit to Vietnam, invited by his counterpart Truong Tan Sang.

Both countries have diplomatic relations since 1979, but cooperation between the Seychelles archipelago and the Vietnam has actually intensified in 2009, after the appointment of the Ambassador of Seychelles to Beijing, Philippe de Gall, to the post of non-permanent Ambassador of Seychelles to the Vietnam.

The Seychelles President James Michel has made this cooperation a priority, like relationships previously forged with India and China.

Seychelles and Vietnam and officially recorded in August 2010 a strategic partnership in the economic, cultural, scientific and technical, with the "visa waiver for holders of diplomatic passports or services agreement in 2011", as indicates the vietnamplus.vn site.

Trade between countries are around 2.2 million for the year 2012, including 1.3 million dollars of exports of Vietnam such as "rice, chemicals and fishing nets" to the archipelago.

The Seychelles authorities also want to strengthen the strategic focus of cooperation with Vietnamese leaders in the areas of tourism, fisheries, trade, agriculture, environment and maritime transport.

Seychelles wish to increase the number of Vietnamese workers in the archipelago and promote their employment in the tourism sector.

Seychelles have also invested in 2013 about 33.6 million dollars in eight projects at the Vietnam, which class the archipelago as the first of the African investors in the Vietnamese territory.
