Seychelles: India will assist in the construction of a military base on Assumption Island

The visit of the Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, in the Seychelles on March 10  made it possible to result in an agreement between the two countries for the establishment of a military base on Assumption Island, about 1,140 kilometers to the South west of Mahé, the main island of the Seychelles.
The Government of India as well as the Seychelles authorities to will help infrastructure construction that can accommodate ships of the Coast Guard of the archipelago as well as airplanes of the Air Force.
The military base established on Assumption Island and will allow better monitoring of the exclusive economic zone of the archipelago and will also serve to fight against maritime piracy and other illegal trafficking.
