Seychelles: Creation of a unit of maritime police formed by the European Union within the archipelago

The Seychellois authorities are currently working on the creation of a maritime police unit to combat illegal activities in the territorial waters of the archipelago, as including maritime piracy, narcotics trafficking and other incidents at sea.
 
The dozen of elements of this maritime police unit  will collaborate so that the various missions of the Seychellois coastguard to ensure compliance with applicable maritime law within the exclusive economic zone of Seychelles of 1.3 million km2 , as stated by the Minister of the Interior of the archipelago Joël Morgan.
 
The mission of the European Union aimed at the strengthening of regional maritime capabilities in the Horn of Africa and the Western Indian Ocean (EUCAP Nestor) has assisted in the formation of this specialised brigade, as indicated as Seychelles New Agency reported.
