Development of tourism must be carried out taking into account and respecting the environment.
It is with this focus that many providers, hotels and restaurants, have chosen to begin a system of recognition for their efforts.
The first international environmental label for tourist accommodation and catering, the Green Key label, is attributed to tourist accommodation and restaurants which can show an independent jury of experts continuous and dynamic environmental management performance.
Green Key is a programme supported by the French office of the Foundation for Environmental Education in Europe which developed, among other things the Blue Flag campaign and Eco-schools.
On Reunion Island, the Jardine d'Heva hotel in Salazie, the Villa Mascarine in St Leu and the restaurant La Plage de l’Hôtel Lux  in St Gilles proudly hold this classification.
There are many other labels and rankings. All help to show commitment toward sustainable tourism because it is a considerable asset in attracting the most demanding customers.
