More than 4180 long-tailed monkeys exported

From January to June 2015, 4,182 long-tailed monkeys were exported for biomedical medical research purposes to mostly European and American laboratories, as reported by the official body Statistics Mauritius.

This market over the period has generated in its wake a total sum of 357 million rupees (8.9 million euros). In 2014, 8992 macaques had been sent to the four corners the world for 720 million rupees (18 million euros).
As a reminder, Mauritius ranks second among the exporting countries of macaques after China.
