Mayotte: The department has experienced the driest period ever reported since 1960

Services of Meteo France have published at the end of last week. The rainfall registered in 2014 has been nearly equivalent to rainfall usually recorded annually. A decline 3% in rainfall over the twelve months of the year was noted.

However, the 2013-2014 period of austral summer (December to March) was particularly watered and is positioned as the fifth wettest year since 1960. The passage of the intense cyclone Hellen (29-30 March last) less than 200 kilometers of the Mahoran coasts drained notably in the wake heavy rain. 275 mm of rain in two 2 days were particularly identified in M'Tzamboro.
From April to October 2014, the department of Mayotte has also experienced the period of dry ever reported on the island since 1960, with a recorded decline of nearly 60% of rainfall falling locally.
