The Mahoran Association ATOLL has recently released its two-year study on manta rays in the lagoon of Mayotte.
Some forty reefs rays (Manta alfredi) were counted while ocean rays (Manta birostris) have until then not been observed. Completely black manta rays have been identified, which according to the association is a specificity of the Mayotte lagoon "while the mantas are usually black on the back, with a white belly."
ATOLL also puts forward "the fragile and threatened population" Rays Manta of Mayotte.
