Mayotte: A new viral strain of dengue makes its appearance

Officials of the vector control at the Regional Health Agency (RHA) of Mayotte identified 6 cases of imported dengue on the island of perfumes since last week.
11 cases were thus recorded since the beginning of the rainy season last November.
The last cases listed from the Comoros archipelago particularly concerned the health authorities because the affected patients might be carrying a viral strain DENV-2 still unidentified till now on the department of Mayotte.

In order to prevent a possible spread of the disease in Mayotte with a non-immune population, the regional health agency has strengthened its monitoring device in this return period of public holidays and preventively target main vectors travelers of the disease.

On the ground, awareness campaigns among Mahorian doctors are also underway, as indicated by the Journal de Mayotte newspaper.
