Mauritius wants to make war on illegal fishing in its territorial waters

The Ministry of fisheries decided to combat the looting of Mauritian territorial waters by vessels Seine foreign-flagged and who commit their misdeeds at nightfall.

Currently, several Mauritian vessels operating on fishing areas where suspected foreign vessels, themselves very often return to dock with half of their usual catch of fish in their holds.

For the Minister for fisheries, Nicolas Von Vally who wants to eradicate the phenomenon, "the Government is very vigilant on this matter", specifying that the authorities cannot fight alone against illegal fishing, as reported by the newspaper Le Matinal.

As a reminder, last year, two sri Lankans and two Thai ships boats were intercepted while they were engaged in illegal fishing in Mauritian waters.
