In a special release published in late morning of "pre-cyclonic alert", services of the weather station of Vacoas emphasise the high risk that the "tropical depression currently evaluating in the North of Saint-Brandon" could intensify and reach the stage of moderate tropical storm.

It would thus be baptised Edilson by Wednesday.

In the wake of this moderate tropical storm, the time is expected to deteriorate on the island with showers and gusts of the order of 60 km/h.

Moderate tropical storm, Edilson, could then approach Mauritian coast and its proximity to Mauritius in its phase of intensification could directly lead to a warning cyclone class 4 passage, as reported by the defimedia.info site.

"Normally, we issue a warning from class 1. Then, we turn to the 2 alert and the alert 3 eventually. But in this case, we cannot issue a cyclone alert because depression has not yet been named. When this will be made, we will probably go directly to the alert 4 because the storm will already be too close to Mauritius. Hence our decision to place the country in pre-cyclonic alert", said Mamade Beebeejaun, Director of the meteorological station of Vacoas, on the private station Radio Plus.
