Mauritius: oil in Mauritian waters?

Indian scientists who conducted hydrographic charts of the seabed of the exclusive economic zone (EEZ) of Mauritius highlighted the presence of polymetallic mineralized nodules that could confirm the existence of oil in Mauritian waters.

Local authorities thus decided to embark on an oil and gas exploration with the assistance of the University of Mauritius that must frame future studies, as reported by the newspaper L'Express of Mauritius.

"It is unlikely that we could not discover oil in our exclusive economic zone", said Rajesh Jain, Minister of higher education of Mauritius.

As reminder, Mauritius manages an exclusive economic zone (EEZ) of approximately 1.960.000 km².
