Mauritius has benefited from more than 12.7 billion rupees of subsidies between 2008 and 2013

The European Union (EU) has allocated to Mauritius more than 12.7 billion rupees (1) grants between 2008 and 2013 as a member of the IOC, COMESA and the SADC (2).
Cooperation between the EU and Mauritius has been mainly centered on the restructuring of the Mauritian economy, financial support to non-State actors and technical assistance of the public administration.
The European Union has locally supported structural reforms particularly in the sugar field and also in education, taxation, social aid, renewable energy and environmental policy, as reported in the Le Défi Quotidien newspaper.
