Mauritius, cinematic ground for international productions
While a dozen Indian filmmakers have opted in 2014 for the Mauritius destination, foreign cinematography industry as part of the Government's program to promote the shootings of feature film, documentaries and other programs of television made in Mauritius has brought about 145 million rupees * to the authorities in two years.
Under the Rebate Scheme, the Mauritian Government reimburses from 2012 up to 30% of the budget allocated to travel expenses and accommodation as well as the post-production from 100,000 dollars invested in feature films, 50,000 dollars for television documentaries and 30,000 dollars for other television programs, as indicated by the Le Défi Quotidien newspaper.
Twenty films, documentaries and television programs were produced in Mauritius since the introduction of the Rebate Scheme in 2012.
As a reminder, on the horizon of 2015 the only Indian film industry should report in Mauritius about 500 million rupees.
* One euro roughly equivalent to 41 rupees
