Mauritius: Young girls equally addicted to cigarettes as boys

The fight against the harmful effects of tobacco is a priority of the health authorities of Mauritius Island, especially at the beginning of a campaign on the island called "2013, year without tobacco".

A recent study conducted among the age group of 15-19 years has highlighted that 40.9% admit of having ever
smoked occasionally. 23.2% report also being addicted to nicotine on a daily basis. A cigarette addiction that affects the same proportion of the population both male and female.
An attempt to curb the consumption of tobacco, particularly among young Mauritians, the Ministry of health decided to launch in the forthcoming week a campaign, with new images on cigarette packages showing the harm of tobacco on the health.
