Mauritius: Xavier-Luc Duval, the former Minister of Economics who has resigned evokes the presence of oil and gas in the exclusive economic zone

On the eve of the next legislative elections in Mauritius, the leader of the Parti mauricien social Démocrate (PMSD) and former Minister of Economy who has resigned, Xavier-Luc Duval, recently highlighted at a political rally of the alliance Le Peuple - comprising the Mouvement Socialiste Militant (MSM), the PMSD and the Mouvement Libérateur* (ML) that the exclusive economic zone (EEZ) of Mauritius is full of oil and gas.
According to him, the project remained unfulfilled for the time being under the previous government due to slow administration to fiscally develop this hypothetical natural manna available in Mauritian waters.
A percentage charged by the State of Mauritius for the resource should be developed if research had confirmed the presence of oil and gas at the heart of the EEZ according to Xavier-Luc Duval, as reported by the newspaper L’Express of Mauritius.
As a reminder, Mauritius manages an exclusive economic zone of about 1,960,000 square kilometers.
