Mauritius: Working at hotels taxi drivers gather in association to defend their rights against tour operators
Some 1.113 taxi drivers who operate exclusively in hotels in Mauritius are grouped in an association called "Grouping Taxis from the Hotel".
The latter thus decided to mount the niche against tour operators which it accused of unfair competition.

The association "Grouping the hotel Taxi" already invites its thousands of members to congregate peacefully on Friday in the garden of the company at Port Louis to hear authorities.

Affected by the ambient economic stagnation of their sector of activity with turnover figures that plunge for months, taxi drivers no longer today to pay their banking deadlines and their work cars are threatened with seizure.

Tour operators who agree with hoteliers in the formula "all inclusive" to transport tourists around the island would be in their view the main responsibility for this situation.

On the side of the public body managing the profession, the National Transport Authority, it rather indicates that it is the tourists who do not wish to be transported by taxi because of "prices" as the paper describes Le Défi Quotidien.
