Violent clashes erupted between police and hawkers yesterday afternoon near Victoria station in Port-Louis during a banal routine check.
Unwilling to see some of their requisitioned goods, hawkers began to rebel.
The Mauritian police had to use tear gas to restore public order and disperse the troublemakers without however no arrests.
Several hawkers had to be transported to the Jeetoo hospital.
Police authorities have decided the opening of an investigation to establish the exact scenario of these clashes, as indicated in the Le Défi Quotidien newspaper.
