Mauritius: Two new units of chemotherapy soon open at the hospital of Port Louis and Flacq

The Ministry of Health of Mauritius considering the imminent creation of two new units of chemotherapy, one in Jeetoo hospital in Port-Louis, and a second opening at Flacq in east of Mauritius.

Nowadays 11 medical cancerologists officiate in the only center chemotherapy Candos Victoria Hospital in the center of the island.

"This is intended to ease the task of the staff of Victoria Hospital. Moreover, patients will no longer have to travel long distances to take their medication", said Lormus Bundhoo, the Minister of Health.

Two foreign cancerologists will also help their fellow Mauritians, as related site lematinal.com.

1,800 new cases are treated annually, with 1,000 people dying in the same period.

For the past four years, cancer is responsible for 11.9% of all registered deaths in Mauritius.
