Mauritius: Thousands of people are unaware of their HIV status

Yesterday, Monday 1 December, was celebrated the World Day against AIDS.

Since last Saturday the Mauritian authorities have multiplied the free public screenings of the virus to the four corners the island.

According to official figures from September 2014, the HIV / AIDS affects 6,015 people with HIV in Mauritius.

However, the number of HIV in Mauritius would be much higher and is assessed by the Prevention Information against AIDS Association (PILS) to about 10,000 cases, or thousands of people who are ignorant having contracted the HIV virus / AIDS.

The PILS Association invites the whole Mauritian population to be tested.
