Mauritius: The shopping basket is close to Rs 9,200
The Confederation of workers of the private sector (PSAP) in Mauritius, by the voice of the trade unionist Jane Ragoo, puts forward that the shopping basket for a Mauritian family with two children is currently worth some 9,200 rupees *.
A shopping basket which records a decline and reflecting a decrease in the prices of some consumer products as well as the existing competition between different food supermarkets on the island, as the Le Défi Quotidien newspaper reported.
The price of vegetables sold on the shelves of shopping malls fell by 20.7% in the last quarter of 2014.
As a reminder, the price index for consumption in Mauritius has also decreased by 0.8% in the second quarter of this year according to the latest figures published by the official agency Statistics Mauritius.
* One euro roughly equivalent to 41 rupees
