Mauritius: The public debt increased by 500 million euro in 2013




The latest figures published by the Ministry of Finance of Mauritius reported public debt which increased by 20 billion in 12 months (500 million euro).
 
At the end of December 2013, the Mauritian public debt was thus around the 220 billion rupees (5.5 billion euros), or about 170,000 rupees per capita (4,250 euros).
 
Debt to countries foreigners and institutions amounted to 57.6 billion rupees (1.44 billion euros) and local debt at 162.2 billion rupees (4.05 billion euros).
 
The Mauritian public debt accounted for 60% of the gross domestic product, in December 2013, compared with 57.9% at the end of 2012, as the week-end newspaper reported.
