Mauritius: The production of fruits and vegetables dropped in 2014, onions and pineapple severely impacted

The production of fruits and vegetables in Mauritius dropped by 6.6% in 2014 and 110,366 tons were harvested against 118,121 tons the previous year.
These results are halftoned due to unfavorable weather conditions that the island has experienced last year. Onion production as well as that of pineapples were particularly impacted with a respective drop for the one and the other of 24% and 32.4%.
In contrast, rice production experienced a growth of 83.6% in 2014, with 1,186 tons compared with 646 tons reached in 2013.
