Mauritius: The prevalence of diabetes on the island affects more than 23% of Mauritians aged between 25 and 74 years




While the World Diabetes Day will be held tomorrow, Friday, November 14, a vast awareness campaign against the disease is conducted at to every corner of the island.
 
Mauritius records since 1987 an increase of more than 100% in the number of people affected by diabetes, as indicated by the newspaper Le Matinal.
 
The prevalence of diabetes is thus * 23.6% of Mauritians between aged 25 and 74 years, while at the same time one in two people of the same age is already showing pre-diabetic or diabetic's signs.
 
Remember, the main diabetes risk factors include obesity, lack of exercise, poor diet and high blood pressure.
 
* Diabetes prevalence is determined by the number of people with diabetes compared with the general population
