Mauritius: The industry construction demand an end to the suspension of recruitment of foreign workers on the island
Professionals in the sector of the construction of the island asked the authorities to reverse their decision to freeze the recruitment of foreigners which starts according to them to block the development of the country with delays on many sites.

According to the newspaper Le Défi Quotidien, the suspension measure which was to end on October 15 could be extended in time by the Ministry of labour in charge of the case.

"We must stop this. We are suffering from this decision. Some of our work have even cumulative delayed', denounces Bhooshan Ramloll, entrepreneur in the construction, and member of the Building and Civil Engineering Contractors Association (BACECA).

As a reminder, the Mauritian Minister of labour, Shakeel Mohamed, had announced in early September the suspension until October 15 of permits granted to foreigners working in the construction sector, and this, following the violent incidents between Bangladeshi workers and police officers Tuesday, September 3, 2013 in the evening.

The provisional measure freezing the recruitment of foreign workers on the island is designed by the authorities to facilitate access to employment in the construction field to Mauritian citizens.
