Mauritius: The fines for speeding has almost tripled over one year

38,457 contraventions were drawn up for Mauritian motorists caught speeding between January and June 2014.
On the same calendar period in 2013, 13,071 violators were fined.
With a fixed fine of 2,000 rupees per offense *, revenues from the State of Mauritius thus amounted to about 77 million rupees as indicated by the Le Matinal newspaper.
As a reminder, 36 speed cameras were in use on the roads of Mauritius in July.
* One euro roughly equivalent to 40 rupees
