Mauritius: The fight against violence towards women in the heart of the action of the Ministry of Gender Equality
The Department of the equality of Genres for the equality between men and women awarded since 2009 to a dozen non-governmental organizations, 12.8 million rupees (320,000 euros) through local projects, to combat violence against women in Mauritius.

A study of the SADC (Southern African development community) has thus highlighted that a quarter of Mauritian women were victims of violence and about the same percentage of men has confessed that they have already committed acts of violence against their partners.

For the Minister Mireille Martin in charge of Morocco of the equality of Genres in Mauritius, the majority of these cases of violence are against the female gender who, following an active campaign conducted by the Department does no longer hesitate to denounce "perpetrators", as the newspaper Le Matinal relates.

"The sexual exploitation of children for commercial purposes is also one of our concerns. It is an integral part of the types of violence against girls and women," said the Minister of gender equality, Mireille Martin.
