Mauritius: The agricultural sector of the island wants to develop further

Sugar production in 2014 has reached 400,000 tons of sugar to the Chamber of Agriculture of Mauritius.
For the official agency statistics, Statistics Mauritius, the culture of sugar cane in Mauritius today represents 0.8% of GDP while the figure was 1.3% in 2011.
The agricultural sector in all its components represented 3.1% of GDP in 2014. The Secretary General of the Chamber of Agriculture, Jacqueline Sauzier thus pleads for a support from the authorities to further develop the agricultural industry.
Self-sufficiency in vegetables, modernization of the sector, training and professionalism of all the actors in the industry form part of issues that the Minister of Finance will give priority to for the first fiscal year of his term.
