Mauritius: The Ministry of health will soon conduct several awareness campaigns to combat alcoholism
The Ministry of health will soon conduct several awareness campaigns to combat the scourge of alcoholism and the risks to public health in Mauritius.

Mauritian youth will be particularly targeted, and this, in order to curb the phenomenon of heavy drinking among this population.

According to an official study of 2011 conducted in universities, more than 24% of the students confessed to regularly drink alcohol and 71.2% of the young scholars have also noted having consumed their first drink before the age of 14 years, while the rate was 63.2% in 2007, as relates the newspaper Le Matinal.

As a reminder, Mauritians have bought no fewer than 53.5 million bottles of alcoholic beverages in 2012 for expenses amounted to 2 billion rupees (50 million euros), including "4 million bottles of wine, 12, 6 million bottles of whiskey and rum and 36 million cans of beer ", as indicated in early September the Minister of Health, Lormus Bundhoo.
