Mauritius: The Minister of the Environment wants to take by the horns the problem of stray dogs

The Mauritian Minister of the Environment, Raj Dayal, recently specified on setting up of a strategic plan to bring about a solution to the problem of stray dogs wandering in the vicinity of beaches on the island.
His ministry wants to save the image of the country and fight what authorities consider to be a national scourge that severely affects the tourism sector of Mauritius. A next committee will be responsible to study the matter and make proposals to result in concrete action.
"The situation is really worrying. It will be necessary to look at all aspects of the problem to take appropriate measures. I guarantee the population that the government will find a solution very shortly," said Minister of the Environment.
As a reminder, according to latest figures, Mauritius enumerated some 120,000 stray dogs for a population of nearly 1.3 million.
