The Mauritian market has achieved self-sufficiency in chicken meat for more than two years.

Chicken producers in Mauritius thus produce 47,100 tons annually, of which 3,000 tons in surplus.

The producers have decided to embark on a period of less than one year in exporting the surplus to Reunion Island, Madagascar, Comoros and several countries in East Africa.

But before the start of exports, the Ministry of Agro Industry will strive upstream to check the chickens for the Indian Ocean region should be in compliance with standards, including that of the European Union, as indicates the newspaper L'Express of Mauritius.
