Mauritius: The Mauritian capital Port wants to play in the big leagues by becoming a regional platform

The harbor zone of the capital, Port Louis, is currently under works of expansion to meet an expected increase in the maritime traffic of the Indian Ocean region by the year 2016.
This project led by the Mauritius Port Authority (MPA) has also resulted in dredging with a draft of up to 16.5 meters, and this, so that large ships are able to be welcomed into the port.
This ambitious project has aim to position Mauritius as a strategic platform for the regional transshipment of containers and attract new investment.
The works to stimulate the attractiveness of the port and facilitate unloading of containers is amounted to 4.6 billion rupees * as indicated by the Le Matinal newspaper.

The annual capacity of transshipment now estimated between 400,000 and 550,000 treated containers and could reach 750,000 containers with the planned expansion of the port.
