Mauritius: The French Development Agency at the bedside of the energy sector of the island




The French Development Agency (AFD) has allocated an amount of two billion rupees (50 million euros) to the Mauritian authorities for the development of the energy sector on the island.
 
This funding was officially recorded last Friday between the Minister of Finance Xavier-Luc Duval, and the director of the AFD, Laurence Breton-Moyet.

This loan from the French Development Agency is also accompanied by a support of 60 million rupees (1.5 million) granted to the State of Mauritius to promote particular renewable energy in the wake of the government project "Maurice ile Durable" face the challenges of climate change and the fight against greenhouse gas emissions.
 
For the Ambassador of France to Mauritius, Laurent Garnier, the country must seize the opportunity provided by turning to the green economy in order to be less dependent on fossil fuels and to move closer to energy independence, as the newspaper Le Défi Quotidien reports.
