While the water cuts are more and more frequent in many regions of Mauritius, some private tanker operators take advantage of the situation.

Unscrupulous operators thus steal the precious liquid without using any authorization the drilling points and terminals of the CWA, the public body in charge of the distribution of water in Mauritius.

Fraudsters even directly draw water from rivers.

In recent days, water of the CWA have been put under surveillance to curb the growing phenomenon on the island.

Therefore, the CWA officials cannot currently guarantee that the water distributed by these illicit methods is of the same quality as that from tap and could even prove to be unfit for consumption, as reported by the newspaper L'Express of Mauritius.
