It is around 11 o'clock yesterday evening that calm finally prevailed.

Since 17:30, the area of Plaine Verte, in Mauritius, was under high tension.

A road accident is at the origin of the clashes between inhabitants of the region and three individuals. They have beaten a teenager of 16 years after their car struck the motorcycle of the latter around 5.30 pm yesterday afternoon.

A lively altercation took place between the two parties.

The teenager was to be assaulted by the three occupants of the vehicle who are drug addicts known to the region.

The teenager was relieved of his watch and his silver chain, as shown in the L' Express newspaper.

Wounded, the young man managed to return home.

On their sides, the three individuals travelled to the residence of one of them, near the victim.

A few minutes later, a group of several people, armed with swords and clubs, have landed at the address where the aggressors of the young man was. A scuffle then ensued.

Meanwhile, many onlookers have massed outside the residence for revenge.

The local police was working on the site but could not disperse the hostile crowd. It took the reinforcement of the elements of the Special Support Unit to calm the situation.

Three addicts have left the place under heavy police escort and were driven in a police cell. It appears that they used to sow terror in the region and three statements were made against them for brutality yesterday.
