Mauritius: Sharp decline in the use of contraceptives on the island in 10 years

The means of contraception used in Mauritius have experienced a net decline from 2003 to 2013, as revealed by the latest official figures communicated by the authorities.
The statistical data of the Mauritius Family Planning and Welfare Association (MFPWA) have established that by 2013 some 67.422 Mauritians have made use of contraceptives against 96.280 identified in 2003, i.e., a differential of 28.858 people.
As a reminder, married or cohabiting couples were 77% to use contraceptives in 2012, as is also pointed out in an investigation by the Minister of health and reported by the newspaper L'Express of Mauritius.
