Mauritius: Sharp decline in pineapple production in fields of the island

Pineapple production in Mauritius has sharply fallen during the first six months of 2014.
4,820 tons of pineapples were produced against 7,602 tons thus in the first half of 2013, a decrease of more than 57%.
The professionals in the industry point the figure at the rise in production costs and less significant cuttings this year to account for the sharp decline, as reported by the Mauritian newspaper Le Défi Quotidien.
