Mauritius: Road unsafety still relevant on the roads of the island

137 people were killed on the Mauritian roads in 2014 against 136 deaths in 2013.
The major cause of fatal accidents in Mauritius is excessive speed on the part of drivers.
Two-wheelers have been hit hard in 2014 by the road carnage, with approximately 50% of deaths recorded. Over 170,000 motorbikes drive on asphalt, sharing the road with motorists.
AS a reminder, 2012 was a particularly nightmarish year for road safety in Mauritius, with 156 recorded deaths.
