Mauritius Road Insecurity: 68 deaths and 284 serious casualties for the first semester 2015

According to latest figures reported by the official agency Statistics Mauritius, the record of road accidents in Mauritius totaled to 68 deaths (4.6%), 284 serious casualties (7.2%) and 1492 minor injuries (-1 7%) 13,779 road accidents listed for the first semester 2015 against 12 668 counted during the same calendar period in 2014.
Between January and June of this year, two-wheeler riders or passengers (28 dead) and pedestrians (20 deaths) have paid such a heavy price in road accidents on the island.
As a reminder, there are currently 476,207 vehicles (+ 2.4%) of all types circulating on the Mauritian network.
