Mauritius: Risk of thunderstorms and heavy downpours in the afternoon

Thunderstorms and heavy showers may again befall Mauritius during the afternoon of this Thursday, January 23, 2014, after the episode rainy and stormy of yesterday.

The services of Vacoas meteorological station thus raise the possibility that sudden localised rainfall could affect the North West and the central plateau of the island in the afternoon.

"We record fairly high temperatures for the past few days. Humidity level in the region remains strong enough, and that is what is causing these moderate to heavy showers at times. But these rains will only be of short duration, "retorted at the site lexpress.mu Vandana Guanjur, forecaster at the weather station of Vacoas.

As a reminder, a mini-tornado was observed yesterday Wednesday, January 22, 2014, just before noon, at Petit Verger near Saint-Pierre by several residents of the area.
