Mauritius: Rehabilitation of prisoners by learning a work before their release from prison
Since January 2012, the Mauritian authorities have launched a raft in the prisons of the island, to allow inmates to acquire skills, to regain their freedom.
 
1060 prisoners in six prisons in Mauritius are now benefiting from this program of rehabilitation through labor, which has an annual government envelope 7 million rupees (180,000 euros).
 
Inmates eligible and subject to strict discipline where the work is honored are paid at 20 rupees (0.5 euro) to 30 rupees (0.76 euro) for their efforts in learning of a work, effective passport personal reintegration into civilian life.
 
Training workshops with the key qualifications, cooking, baking, masonry, tailoring, baking, carpentry and are thus provided to prisoners of Mauritius to eventually reduce the recurrence rate, once the ex-held outside.
