Mauritius: Production of seaweed for cosmetics




The Minister of Fisheries Nicolas Von Mally wants boost local aquaculture and make the fishing industry, one of the pillars of the Mauritian economy in the coming years.
 
Thus, a project of seaweed cultures of several species is about to start on an experimental basis on the side of the Grand Sable in Belle Mare in the east of Mauritius and this, in particular for use in cosmetics.
 
Jams seaweed, soaps and other fertilizers could also be created via this local seaweed production.
 
 
This project is co-managed by the Association of Women Entrepreneurs and artisanal fishermen of the region, as reported by the newspaper L'Express of Mauritius.
 
As a reminder, aquaculture, seaweed farming and pearl oysters and should help create more than 1,000 jobs locally.
