Mauritius: People rushing to resellers of reflective vest

Wearing reflective vest became mandatory for users of two-wheelers last Wednesday in Mauritius. This does not prevent motorists to rush to resellers of these vests. Moreover, some of these traders are already out of stock.

The law on the wearing of reflective vest came into force in Mauritius on January 1. Any person found guilty of failing to wear a vest is liable to a fine of 1,000 rupees (25 euros). Motorcyclists and their passengers are required to wear a safety vest on their clothes when traveling day and night.

The purpose of wearing reflective vest allows motorcyclists to be more visible and attract other road users. This practice protects them in case of accident, as they are most at risk in road accidents.
