Mauritius: Mauritius Container Terminal wants to position the island in the heart of the regional transshipment




The Mauritius Container Terminal (MCT) wants to position Mauritius as a strategic platform for regional transshipment containers.
 
To achieve its objective, the Mauritius Container Terminal has decided to increase its storage capacity for the year 2016, and to take delivery of 750,000 containers in the port of the Mauritian capital against 550,000 currently.
 
Work estimated at 155 million rupees * were thus engaged, since last July, also to provide access to the platform to facilitate larger vessels and eventually unloading containers, as shown in the newspaper Le Matinal.
 
As a reminder, the area of transshipments of containers on the docks of Port-Louis is booming.
 
According to the latest official figures from the Mauritius Port Authority (MPA) it is 3652 boats that are positioned in the bay of Port-Louis to perform their different transshipment of containers at the docks in 2013.
 
In 2011, 2,654 vessels berthing is accounted for.
