Mauritius: Mauritians increasingly using their credit card

Mauritian consumers are increasingly using their bank card for making payments from merchants or to withdraw their money at ATMs.
Thus, in February 2015, about 5.22 million transactions have been registered in Mauritius against 4.80 million transactions counted one year earlier. The credit card transactions have thus reached 11 billion rupees * in February and 12 billion rupees during the first month of 2015.
 The same trend is also observed at the Internet Banking with 294,619 transactions made in February in comparison with 243,965 transactions in February 2014.
As a reminder, 1.57 million bank cards (debit and credit) were used till February 28 this year. In Mauritius and Rodrigues, 454 ATMs allow customers 23 Mauritian commercial banks to make cash withdrawals.
