Mauritius: Large-scale cleaning campaign for "a clean country, a beautiful country"

Mauritius: Large-scale cleaning campaign for "a clean country, a beautiful country"
An extensive campaign of cleaning of litter on the island, Clean Up Mauritius, was officially launched on Tuesday and should extend until December 1 with a single slogan "a clean country, a beautiful country".

Thousands of volunteers will thus take turns in every corner of Mauritius to get rid of waste that pollute some areas and other wild lands or pollute the water discharge drains.

Operation Clean Up Mauritius is initiated by municipalities and the district councils of the island as well as with the cooperation of private companies and parastatal organism.

"This campaign is apolitical. We advocate for a cleaner Mauritius. To do this, we invite everyone to show solidarity by joining us," said Emeline Tsang Mang Kin, project coordinator.

Mauritians may also follow this cleaning operation via Facebook where a page is dedicated to it and report online places where dirt is persistent, as shown in Le Défi Quotidien newspaper.
