Mauritius: Lack of place in the cemeteries to welcome the deceased

Out of the 52 cemeteries counted in Mauritius, only five can still accommodate deceased in their last home.
Owing to lack of space to bury the bodies, the bereaved families no longer have the opportunity to purchase lifetime graves to bury their loved ones. Henceforth, the burial plots are allocated for a period of five years before being recovered by the administration and the plots given on sale.
Abandoned tombs and vaults are also currently listed. For four years, the people killed in Mauritius outnumber births record. In 2014, it accounted for 9,682 deaths against 9,440 the previous year.
